According to the most recent reports as of January 2025, the number of imprisoned journalists around the world has reached its highest level in recent years. The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) reported that by the end of 2024, at least 361 journalists were incarcerated globally.

Countries such as China, Israel, and Myanmar top the list for the highest number of jailed journalists. Specifically, China has 50 imprisoned journalists, Israel 41, and Myanmar 35.

These figures reflect the growing pressure on press freedom worldwide and highlight serious concerns about the state of human rights and freedom of expression.
