Before modern drugs, people died of things that would be easily treatable now, Europe had plagues every few decades, and life expectancy was the mid 30's. Only a few years ago, we had a covid pandemic that was ended by vaccinations developed by pharmaceutical companies. With reference to the cartoons, BioNTech, the developer of Pfizer's covid vaccination, is expected to post quarterly loss of $0.99 per share in its upcoming report. Some pharmaceutical company executives make huge salaries, but pharmaceutical companies themselves don't make huge profits for their size, in comparison to technology companies, for example.
