Today Malaysian cartoonist Zulkiflee Anwar Alhaque - Zunar - stands trial for nine counts of "sedition". His cartoons often portray prime minister Najib Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor. Books have been seized following police raids on Zunar's studio in Kuala Lumpur. If found guilty he could be imprisoned. The maximum sentence for "sedition", itself a relic of British colonialism in the region, is 43 years.
