Bipartisanship in America

The murder of UnitedHealth’s CEO has sparked a rare, almost universal reaction: Americans across the political spectrum seem to agree it’s hard to feel sympathy for someone who represented such a brutal and broken system. Our for-profit healthcare and insurance industries are designed to exploit suffering, not heal it. Every year, they drive families into bankruptcy and leave tens of thousands dead because profits come first. Without private health insurance, we could prevent 68,000 deaths annually and save $450 billion. But instead, we live in a society where access to care depends on your ability to pay, a reality that should shame a country claiming to be the wealthiest in the world.

What’s infuriating is how normalized this system has become. Rejecting care, hiking premiums, and denying claims isn’t business—it’s cruelty dressed up in a suit and tie. And it’s legal because the people running these companies bribe those who write the rules. These CEOs aren’t just ruthless—they’re a threat to public health. The solution isn’t reform; it’s abolition. We need a government-funded healthcare system that prioritizes humanity over profits. Anything less leaves the wolves in charge, feeding on the most vulnerable among us.

Even those who typically hate socialism seem to agree on this one point: the system is evil, and its leaders are not our friends. The billionaires, the insurance companies, and Wall Street don’t care about you. If you’ve ever felt the sting of a denied claim or feared medical debt, you’ve already tasted the class war they’re waging against us. This fight isn’t left versus right; it’s the working class versus the ruling class. And whether you call yourself a socialist or not, this is the battle that unites us. Let’s stand together.

As horrible as the healthcare crisis is, I am glad this event has shown the country is still able to be united.
