Where Are All the Right-Wing Free Speech Warriors?

Here’s part two of my cartoon, “Where Are All the Right-Wing Free Speech Warriors?” It’s surprising how little attention this story is getting, especially with how serious it is. Trump megadonor Steve Wynn has asked the far-right Supreme Court to overturn the important 1964 New York Times v. Sullivan decision. This rule is a major protection for freedom of the press because it lets journalists report on public officials without being afraid of getting sued all the time. If the court gets rid of it, politicians could sue anyone who criticizes or exposes them, even for small or accidental mistakes. This could lead to a lot of censorship, as many news outlets would be too scared to publish anything that could lead to a lawsuit. It’s a serious threat to press freedom and holding public officials accountable. So why aren’t more people talking about it?
