The recent collapse of a mining dam in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais is one of the biggest environmental disasters in the country’s history, where the mining giants BHP Billiton and Vale were involved. The consequences for the river, Rio Doce, involves the death of fish and aquatic life hundreds of kilometers away and making the water hundreds of thousands of people depend on undrinkable.
