Nakba

The Nakba means “the catastrophe” in Arabic. It happened in 1948, when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were forced to leave their homes during the creation of the state of Israel. 500 villages were destroyed, and families became refugees in other countries or areas nearby. Palestinians remember the Nakba every year on May 15 as a day of loss, displacement, and the hope of returning to their homeland.
