In the countries of origin, fundamentalists impose the burqa because it should guarantee the integrity of the woman's body (read the control of sexuality) but if most of the violence is consumed in the family (in Afghanistan the family code for Shia legitimizes rape) it means that the burqa is not a guarantee. So much so that many women commit suicide by setting themselves on fire because they can no longer endure the violence suffered at home.
