It's not an anti-Semitic cartoon

The Holocaust constituted a catastrophe for the Palestinian people, while European Jews perceived it as an opportunity.

Ah, I see what you mean now, thank you. Yes, as a Jewish person, we should never inflict the tragedy that befell us in the 1940s upon any other, and it is a horrific thing that Israel is doing it to Palestinians. It is disrespectful to both Palestinian history and Jewish history. I am sure that if the survivors and deceased of the Holocaust could see what Israel was doing in Gaza today, they would be shocked and revolted.

"The phrase "Do you know what appalls me, as a Palestinian? To be with time, a new version of Jewish" reflects a poignant and politically charged analogy often invoked in discussions about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Here's a breakdown of its meaning and context:

Key Interpretation:
The speaker draws a parallel between the historical persecution of Jewish people (particularly during the Holocaust and centuries of antisemitism) and the contemporary experiences of Palestinians under Israeli occupation or displacement. The phrase suggests that over time ("with time"), Palestinians have come to occupy a role akin to that of Jewish people in the past—a people facing systemic oppression, statelessness, or erasure. This comparison is meant to evoke empathy and highlight what the speaker perceives as a tragic irony: that a group once victimized (Jewish people) has become, in their view, the oppressor (via the Israeli state), while Palestinians now endure analogous suffering.

Contextual Layers:
Historical Trauma:
Jewish history includes centuries of persecution, culminating in the Holocaust. After 1948, the establishment of Israel as a Jewish state aimed to provide safety and sovereignty. However, this involved the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians (the Nakba or "catastrophe"). The speaker implies that Palestinians now face a similar fate of dispossession and marginalization.

Role Reversal:
The phrase critiques the idea that oppressed groups can, over time, become oppressors in new contexts. It reflects a sense of betrayal that the Israeli state, founded partly as a response to Jewish trauma, is now perceived as inflicting analogous harm on Palestinians.

Moral Appeal:
By invoking this comparison, the speaker calls attention to what they see as hypocrisy or a double standard in international responses to Palestinian suffering versus historical Jewish suffering. It challenges audiences to recognize Palestinian rights and humanity."

@Mohammed Afefa
I am unsure what you mean. Perhaps there has been a translation error?

This cartoon appalls me, as a Jew... but at the same time, I cannot really fault it for antisemitism, and it is not denying the existence of the Holocaust either. Well done, this is a very powerful piece.
