Hello Tjeerd, it boils down to how we define "responsibility". In the context of cartooning, some tend to define "responsibility" as "avoiding to hurt some audience feelings". In this cartoon, i read the "free" pencil as a "free but responsible" pencil. Just questioning what "responsible" actually means. A whole debate, of course :)

I see your point Swaha, but I do like how this image presents freedom of speech as a balance between freedom and responsibility.

I personally use the eraser side of my pencil to correct my drawing lines and make them look better. Not to censore my drawing. There is no freedom in censorship.
