Anti DeepFake Law
In Latvia, the Criminal Code has been supplemented with a new article "Influencing the election process using deep fake technology". It stipulates that the deliberate production or distribution of false discrediting information about a political party or a candidate for a member of the Saeima, municipal council, or European Parliament, using deep forgery technology, if it is done during the pre-election campaign period or on election day, is punishable by imprisonment for a period of up to five years or with temporary deprivation of liberty, or with probation supervision, or with community service. Everything would be fine, but who will be able to determine at what point the fake becomes "deep"?
There is no common understanding, let alone a legal definition, of what constitutes a deep fake.
