Putin and Ukraine

European Union (EU) member states have agreed on new sanctions against Russia. Sanctions were also announced by several other western countries, including the United States and Canada.
The purpose of the sanctions is to punish the Kremlin for launching an attack on Ukraine.
The first package of sanctions was agreed by the EU on Tuesday, but the continuing aggression of Vladimir Putin's regime provoked a much stronger reaction from the bloc.
