The Pen is Mightier Than the Sword
I haven't had the privilege of getting a "Cartoon of the Day" for three years now; In the six years prior to that I got nineteen. My work has either gotten so bad, or it doesn't fit the brief anymore, who knows.
I remember the earlier days of Cartoon Movement where we had a healthy competition with each other seeing who could get the most votes for a cartoon. Good friendships developed, everyone was an encouragement: Ramses, Enrico, Miguel, Antonio, Tjeerd, Shahid, Vladimir, Vasco, Marian, Maarten, Arcadio, Deb, Elihu, Mary, Stillmatic, Murphy, Emad, Gatis, Tomas, Hassan, Emanuele, Amorim, Bart, Osama, Bernard, Rodrigo, Garcia, Fadi, Mohammad, Zemgus etc... sorry if I missed anyone... we were like one big family. Now we have faceless critics who aren't even cartoonists leaving shitpost comments under our cartoons. It's all a bit demoralising.
I miss the good old days.
Anyway, I'm glad I'm still here. I just checked the Cartoon Movement cartoonists bio page.. this is my 3,570th cartoon. Have a good day.

Yes Enrico, I agree with all that. Tjeerd was under extraordinary pressure to make the site perform so it forced his hand a bit. I believe this because I also believe he enjoyed the voting process and the interaction on the old site as much as all of us but he had no choice. He's a good man and I have the utmost respect for him.
Keep up the great work mate.
I agree with what you say Pete and I am in agreement with what said by Fadi, I also think that the previous version of the site was better, but putting me in the perspective of publishers I think that things evolve and they must look for more effective solutions to carry out a project that sometimes works and sometimes not. Time ago me and other Italian cartoonists had written a letter to Tjeerd to make some comments on the new version of the site but I think they were not accepted.
Managing a website of this genre must not be easy, the number of artists who register and post their works every day is increasing and the quality level has risen considerably, and it’s not easy to follow everyone carefully, at least for me and I think it’s not easy for publishers to decide what to publish every day: You have to try and stay on the right track and you can’t give everyone space.
For the rest I live with a question that has been in my head for a long time: it is increasingly difficult to find spaces to be published, so for which who makes me do? Some time ago I even lost the desire to draw, but then I saw that being a cartoonist is still a way to express your own point of view on how things go in this world: You don’t make money, but you enrich yourself culturally and humanly in the continuous comparison between artists.
Все гораздо проще. Просто человеческий фактор. Именно это NEMO и пытался показать. НО НЕ ВСЕ ТАК ПРОСТО...
But was it changed for the better Fadi? The changes seemed to isolate us... alienate us... rather than bring us together. I guess we can start again to foster more encouragement amongst each other. It will be a tribute to what went before.
Cheers Ramses, I appreciate you.
I agree Vladimir, I also enjoyed the open vote count in the top corner, it was exciting to have that. I also enjoyed the discussion the site generated, and I too was dismayed when NEMO was expelled. Everything was ripped away suddenly and I guess we didn't have enough notice, a say in it or time to grieve the old's passing.
Just keep on with the good stuff, Pete. This is what I do everyday. Big hug my friend
I agree with you that the general atmosphere on the site was one of respect, fair competition and encouragement, and the old version of the site was much more beautiful and better than it is now, but everything has changed, just as the whole world has changed after the Corona pandemic, unfortunately.
