Nepo Baby Pardoned by Daddy

It’s hard for me to muster outrage over this story. I want to care—I really do—but I find myself shrugging my shoulders and moving on. What can you do when this kind of thing happens so often? Sure, it’s frustrating and wrong, but at some point, you stop being surprised. This is just how it works in oligarchic America: the rich and powerful break the rules, rewrite the rules, or ignore them entirely. And they face no consequences, because the system was designed to protect them.

Look at Gerald Ford’s pardon of Richard Nixon. Nixon abused his power, spied on his enemies, and undermined democracy. What did Ford do? He let him off the hook, claiming it was “for the good of the country.” In truth, it was for the good of the elites, who couldn’t risk setting a precedent of accountability for one of their own. That moment wasn’t an anomaly—it was a blueprint. Since then, presidents, billionaires, and CEOs have followed the same playbook, knowing full well that the law doesn’t apply to them in the same way it does to the rest of us.

This isn’t a flaw in the system—it is the system. America runs on a two-tier justice model where the powerful operate with impunity, while the rest of us get crushed for the smallest infractions. It’s corruption, plain and simple, dressed up as business as usual. And until people stop accepting it as normal, nothing will change. The rich will continue doing what they do best—getting away with it.
