He Has a Dream

Today is an ironic day. It celebrates the life of someone who gave everything, even his time, his relationships, and ultimately his life, to fight for the rights and dignity of not only Black people but all oppressed people. At the same time, it marks the beginning of a presidency led by a man who not only talks about tearing millions of families apart but has done so before and plans to continue doing it—starting Tuesday, to be exact.

In Chicago, Trump plans to begin the first wave of mass deportations. Think about the impact this will have—not just on the economy but on the lives of American children whose parents could be taken away.

For decades, the United States has destroyed parts of Mexico through its failed War on Drugs. When people flee for their safety, we treat them as if they’re the villains. It’s heartbreaking and wrong.
