Mo, any number of deaths is too many, but there would have been no Palestinian deaths if Palestinians had not started a war. Also, recently, a Hamas leader admitted that 80% of the Palestinians killed during the year-long war in Gaza were Hamas members or their families, so the vast majority of those 42 thousand are not innocent civilians. As long as Hamas leaders continue to say that they will repeat Oct 7 until Israel is destroyed, and as long as Hamas refuses to lay down arms, Hamas is responsible for the results.

Israel ended the occupation of Gaza in 2005, using force to remove Israeli settlers. Israel is back in Gaza now only because Gaza launched a genocidal invasion of Israel one year ago.
