Dozens of local authorities in French coastal towns have banned the burkini, a modest mode of beachwear for Muslim women. The high court has declared the action illegal and the UN has likewise condemned it. Aside from the obvious misogyny of forcing women to undress, such blatant bullying of Muslim citizens provides fodder for the very extremists who have already caused such grievous harm in France and elsewhere.
